From download to reports

A short guide for Windows x64.

Download release 1.0.0

Download PigeonCheck-1.0.0-win-x64.zip.

Microsoft .NET 10 Desktop Runtime x64 is required.

Before extracting: unblock the ZIP

  1. Right-click the ZIP file.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Enable Unblock.
  4. Click Apply.
PowerShell alternative

Unblock-File ".\PigeonCheck-1.0.0-win-x64.zip"

Unblocking the ZIP before extraction prevents Windows from propagating the Mark of the Web to the EXE and PowerShell scripts. The extracted files do not need to be unblocked individually.

Extract the ZIP

Extract all its contents to a local folder.

Start Pigeon Check

Open the extracted folder and double-click PigeonCheck.exe.

Add messages

Drag and drop one or more .eml files into the interface, or select a folder.

A folder may also contain PDF, DOCX, XLSX, TXT and other files: Pigeon Check ignores non-EML files and analyses only EML messages. This is the intended behaviour.

Choose the options

When needed, enable DNS/MX checks and recursive scanning of subfolders.

Start the analysis

Click the start button and wait for the analysis to finish.

Read the results

The table shows the score and classification: NO_STRONG_ANOMALIES, SUSPICIOUS, HIGH_RISK or INCONCLUSIVE.

Pigeon Check is not an antivirus or sandbox and does not certify that a message is legitimate.

Open the reports

Use the dedicated button in the interface to open the reports folder.

Find the summary and details

The Reports folder is created automatically next to PigeonCheck.exe. It contains one report for each message and summary.txt.

No pigeons were harmed during this analysis.
